Two-Tracks in the Keweenaw

Even mountain bikers get cabin fever. Confined to the narrow ribbon of singletrack in the woods day in and day out while their skinny-tire brethren roll carefree through the countryside, from town to town, over hill and dale. The cure for this is a jaunt through the backwoods on the forgotten two-tracks and logging roads of bygone days. Snowmobile trails, dirt roads and abandoned logging roads open even more terrain. The conditions of these trails/roads vary with weather and season. Generally, however, a hardtail will get you where you want to go.

Two (of the many) areas worth checking out are the forests west of Painesdale and the tip of the Keweenaw, between Lac La Belle and Copper Harbor. As soon as we tire of the mountain bike trails – or are at least willing to consider other off-road options – we'll get a few ride suggestions posted here. In the meantime, grab your GPS and start exploring.
